1. How does your service work?
Our service is very simple and easy to use. We have a common carriers'
trailer brought to your house for you to load. Once you have your items
on the trailer the carriers' professional drivers will take your items
to your new home. Once they arrive they will deliver your items straight to your door. Our service is a
full door to door service with some of the quickest transit times and
lowest prices in the industry. Return to the top.
2. What is the most and least amount of space I can use?
We have many options for the amount of space needed for your move. We
have two types of trailers used in our service. One is a 28 foot trailer
and the other is a 53 foot trailer, which are both 8 feet wide and 9 feet tall.
You can book as little as 4 linear feet on our 28 foot trailers (4' x 8' x 9'), the whole 28 foot
trailer, the whole 53 foot trailer, or you can even book up to two 28 foot trailers
for a total of 56 feet. Return to the top.
3. What is included in the price quote I receive?
All quotes include the price of the space requested, fuel, taxes, tolls, etc. Basically,
the price quoted to you is the price you'll pay for our entire line-haul service. The
quotes do not include the cost of ramps, dollies, or any packing supplies. The ramps and
dollies can be rented at places like a Home Depot rental center, United Rental, or a
contractors' rental. The price to rent one a ramps is actually very reasonable.
Packing supplies can usually be bought at a truck rental, pack @ ship store, or online.
A good place to get packing supplies online is Pack
Essentials. Pads, handtrucks, and dollies can be rented at a rental store. Any old
blankets can be used for moving pads. They can offer quite a bit more protection
than most rental moving pads and are quite a bit softer. Return to the top.
4. Can my quote or final price ever change?
No one likes it when they are quoted a price only to have it change
at the time of purchase. At PackPro we have no
need to low ball prices just to get moves, we have some of the
best pricing in the country to begin with. If there are any changes in pricing,
they will come from sources outside our control like:
A. Fuel prices. Our carriers update their fuel prices every week.
If they happen to change, your price quote can change. Keep in mind
our quotes are good for 30 days. If you book your move, the price
given to you will be set. If you need to change the amount of space
you booked or use a different amount of space while loading the new
price given to you will include the updated fuel cost at that time.
Generally, when fuel prices change the price of the move changes very little.
B. Amount of space booked or used. If you need to book a different
amount of space than originally booked or if you use more or less
space than you booked the day of your move, your price will change.
If you book, for instance, 12 linear feet and end up using 10, you
will be credited back the difference in price. If you were to book
10 feet and end up using 12, we will charge the difference. You only
pay for what you use when using less than 28 feet.
If you need a full
trailer, tandem pups (two 28 foot trailers), or a 53 foot trailer we
have to keep your price the same regardless of how much space you end
up using. Full trailers get special pricing and are not based on linear feet.
C. If you need to have the trailer
parked on the street or driveway, you need to make sure you are
not violating any city or neighborhood ordinances. You will be
charged for any tickets from parking violations or towing charges.
It is your responsibility to find out your local laws when moving.
D. Time needed for loading, unloading, or delivery. For smaller
moves of about 6 linear feet and less, the trailer will be brought
by your home for 2 hours for loading and unloading. If you need
more time there may be additional fees. For larger moves, we can
have the trailer dropped off for 24 to 48 hours during the weekdays.
If you get the trailer on a Friday, we can usually have the trailer
left over the weekend. The same goes for unloading as well, however,
if you have to delay the scheduled delivery time for more than 1-2
days you will be charged for any storage fees from the carrier.
E. If you cancel your move before the move date, you will be charged
$100. If you cancel your move after the trailer has been delivered,
you will be charged $150. If the driver arrives with the trailer to
your home to find that the truck and/or trailer will not fit, you will
be charged $100 to cancel the move.
It is your responsibility to find out whether or not the trailer can get
to your home. The trailers are 28 or 53 feet long, 8 feet wide, and a
total height of about 13 feet 8 inches. A 28 foot truck/trailer set is
about 40 feet long and the 53 foot truck/trailer set is about 75 feet
long. If you use a set of tandem pups, the length can be up to about 80 feet.
If the trailer cannot be brought to your house at the destination, it will
have to be dropped off at an alternate location. In the worst case, you may
need to rent a local truck and transport your items from the carrier's terminal
to your new home.
F. Changes of the delivery address after the pickup. If you need to
change the address of the delivery after your items have been
picked up you will be charged a re-consignment fee, which is $5 per 100
lbs.
G. Items in your move are banned or seized by U.S. or Canadian customs
or the proper paper work, required by the Agriculture Department,
is not provided for moves into California.
H. You may incur a cleaning charge if trailer contains trash or
moving supplies. Return to the top.
5. How much time do you need to book my move?
We like to have at least one weeks notice to setup your move, however,
we can do them in as little as 24-48 hours. Return to the top.
6. How many days will my items be in transit?
Our carriers generally take between 2 to 6 business days between
the pickup and delivery. The day of pickup, weekends, and holidays are
not included in those transit times. The day of delivery is 1 business
day after the items arrive at the terminal (i.e. it will take 3 to 7
business days for your items to arrive at your new home). These are
only estimated times and are not guaranteed. If you do need a
guaranteed day delivery, we can set one up for you for 20% of the total
price of your move. We cannot get any shorter transit times for your move than
what is listed. If you would like to get a better estimate of how long
the transit times would be for your particular move, you can give us a
call at 1-800-PACKPRO (722-5776) or you can email us. Return to the top.
7. Do your trailers have air ride suspension?
The 28 foot trailers do not have air-ride and the 53 foot trailers do, however,
it is a common misconception that air-ride is better than regular spring
suspension in most cases. One US common carriers was going to convert its entire
fleet to air ride suspension. So they paid for a study and test on whether air-ride was better than springs. It
turns out that when the trailers are fully loaded down there is no difference
in damage between the air-ride trailers and the spring trailers. The air bags
have to pumped up so tight to handle the 60,000 pound load that they end up
being as hard as the regular metal springs over the bumps. An interesting little
fact: A lot of the major van lines use the same common carrier trailers that we
use for their household moves.
The most important part is packing. Even if you had a very soft suspension, your
items can still get damaged if not packed correctly. A lot of major van lines out
there do loads on common carrier trailers that do not have air-ride but survive
the move just as well as the trailers with air-ride because, most importantly,
they are packed very well, but also, as said above, once both trailers are fully
loaded the differences in ride will be negligible. Return to the top.
8. How do my items stay secure in the trailer?
Once you load your items, you can put the bulkhead up which seals all of your items
in place. The bulkhead keeps your items from falling forward and protects tampering
with your items. On top of that, you will be the only ones moving in that particular
trailer. Our carriers have so many trailers on hand that we have the ability to keep
everything separate, unlike most of our competitors. The only items loaded behind
yours will be common business freight. Return to the top.
9. Do you have your own trucks and trailers?
No, we have contracts with the best common carriers in the U.S. We know which carrier
is the best to use for your particular move.
You may have heard online or by word of mouth that brokers aren't good to use since
you are dealing with a middleman. Actually, this simply is not true. Almost all moves
are done by brokers. Even the major movers use agents. Someone has to pay for those
huge buildings and warehouses that moving companies maintain. When using a broker like
us compared to going directly through a local mover, for instance, can be much safer.
When researching about moving you will find a lot of people saying the mover they used
held their items hostage at the destination until the customer paid more money than what
they were originally told they had to pay. This unfortunately happens quite often in
the moving industry. Actually, using us protects you in that we never handle your items
nor ever have them in our possession. Since they will be on a common carriers trailer,
they will get your items to you right away and will not hold your items hostage for some
ridiculous fee that came out of nowhere. The carriers don't like to tie up their trailers
any longer than needed so keeping your items hostage is the last thing they would want to do.
Most carriers don't even offer moving services to the public, as they don't have the
resources to handle all of the logistics needed by the customer. If you called them
they simply wouldn't be able to help you out. A broker like PackPro allows the carriers
to be able do the moves, which in turn gets you excellent prices that can be much but
than most movers can offer. You will be hard pressed to find pricing better than what
we offer for both self service and full service moves. Return to the top.
10. Do you have any mileage or state limitations?
We have no mileage limitations, however, for moves that are under 250 miles, our pricing may
not compete with local movers that serve the area you're moving in. We can do intrastate
(in-state) moves, as long as they're 250 miles or more, as our pricing should be very competitive.
If your move is less than 250 miles and you would still like to get a quote, we would be more
than happy to provide you with one. Lastly, we serve all of the 48 main states. We cannot
service Alaska and Hawaii, as that would require your items to be transferred to a different
trailer or container. Return to the top.
